I chose Nicolaus Copernicus for my Scientific Revolution award. I believe he deserves this award because his book began the Scientific Revolution. His ideas contradicted those of Aristotle and Ptolemy. Copernicus' book inspired great scientists, such as Galileo, to pursue science.
He was the first scientist brave enough to publish the idea that it is possible that greatly respected Greek philosophers could make mistakes just like any other human. Although he was thought to be heretic, he didn't give in and his ideas are accepted today. Congradulations Copernicus!

The Hunger Games

5/2/2012

A few nights ago, I had a dream that I was in the Hunger Games. I had been chosen when I was only twelve from district two. But, the weird thing about it was that I recognized a lot of the tributes of whom I wasn't supposed to know. A lot of them were famous people or friends. All of them looked really intimidating and I was sure I wasn't going to get out alive. Especially because I wasn't planning on killing anyone. For some reason, we then completely skipped all of the ceremonies and rituals; we were sent straight to the arena where all 24 of our lives were put into the hands of a few creul gamemakers.
The arena wasn't beautiful, it was just a forest that, by the looks of it, didn't have much water. I was still trying to decide wheter I should get a crossbow or a knife when the gong sounded: the Games had begun. That's when things got really scary. I was a career, of course, but I didn't know that that mean't that everyone would come after me. Then, I died and I woke up.

If I was able to give advice to one person in history, I would give it to Galileo. I warn him about everything bad that he would face in his life and assure him that his ideas were accepted today. My piece of advice to him would be to wait until he was very old to have his works publishes so that he wouldn't have time left in his life for a trial.
I don't know how much that would alter the future, or if it would at all. But I think that his life would be happier if he wasn't on house arrest for the last few years of his life. He could still be a respected scientist and do what he loved, but he wouldn't be considered heretic.
