If I was able to give advice to one person in history, I would give it to Galileo. I warn him about everything bad that he would face in his life and assure him that his ideas were accepted today. My piece of advice to him would be to wait until he was very old to have his works publishes so that he wouldn't have time left in his life for a trial.
I don't know how much that would alter the future, or if it would at all. But I think that his life would be happier if he wasn't on house arrest for the last few years of his life. He could still be a respected scientist and do what he loved, but he wouldn't be considered heretic.
