I was just returning home after a long day of grueling work in the fields, when I saw smoke that seemed to be over my village. I began to sprint toward my home, but it's much too late to do anything to save anyone. My village was on fire, and off in the distance, I could see narrow, single-sailed ships. The Vikings had raided my village. Surely they hadn't left anyone alive.
My family and friends were all either dead, or to be sold into slavery. Whichever way, I would never see them again. Not to mention, I now have absolutely nothing. My house and possessions have been burned beyond repair. Nothing in my entire village could be salvaged. I have to figure out what to do. But, is there anything I can do? Is my miserable life even worth living?
